The 5th Wave

The 5th Wave is about an alien invasion which has 5 different waves. The 1st wave is wiping out all the power all over the world. The 2nd wave is creating an earthquake to kill a lot of humans. The 3rd wave is an infection which kills millions of humans. The 4th wave was invasion where the others took the form of humans, so you couldn't tell who was human and who was an other. But what is the 5th wave?

I have yet to read this novel, but when I review the book I shall compare the book and the film. This was a great action packed film with lots of great scenes. The acting from all the cast was brilliant. However, I found Maria Bello's character of Sergeant Reznik to be a bit boring and unnecessary. Her make-up also made her look a lot older than she actually is. Chloe Grace Moretz was brilliant as Cassie and she got to take part in a lot of action scenes. I did guess whilst I was watching the film that Evan and Colonel Vosch would turn out to be others. However, I didn't guess that Evan was part human and part other.

Zackary Arthur was brilliant as Nugget and hes so cute aswell. I was glad when Ben tied him up and left him behind so he didn't have to go to a war zone and kill people or get killed. Ben was a brilliant character aswell as he didn't want to end up as one of the others and he also figured out what the 5th wave actually was. Turns out the 5th wave was the others (including Colonel Vosch) getting the children to kill the last remaining survivors.

Evan was one of my favourite characters in this film because not only was he good looking but he would have done anything to prove that he was more human than other. He didn't want the other half of his being and he just wanted to prove that to Cassie. However, it is unknown in this film whether Evan survives or dies at the end of the film. Colonel Vosch was an alright bad guy, but he was not that mean in some parts. He said he was going to kill Ben but that did not happen and he basically forgot all about it, until he tried to shoot them near the end of the film. Colonel Vosch needed to be more mean and horrible in my opinion.

There was action from the first moment of the film when Cassie killed the guy in the gas station, but you did not know why she did this. I found a lot of the commentary from Cassie during the start of the film to sometimes be unnecessary. In my opinion commentary could just have been given as each stage started telling you what was happening and then the commentary finishes, but this did not happen. I also guessed that Colonel Vosch might have been an other when he killed all the adults in the camp, which included Cassie's dad. By this stage Cassie's mother had been killed by in the infection.

Overall, this was a really good film. I shall see how true it stayed to the book when I've given that a read. Hopefully it was very similar to the book in a lot of ways. There were lots of action scenes contained in this film such as the children fighting the survivors, Evan fighting the others and all the waves of the alien invasion. If you loved the book The 5th Wave then this is definitely a book for you or if you just love alien invasion films which are action packed. Really hope they make The Infinite Sea as a film aswell so I can see how this series continues in film form.

  1. Great review, I didn't know much about the premise of the movie let alone the book, before your review; this was very informative. :)
